Small Bathroom Design Tips

When renovating a small bathroom you want to try and give the illusion of space. Consider the following:

The illusion of height

Vertical lines add height to a room by drawing the eye upwards. Tiles that are extended to the ceiling can make a small bathroom feel larger. Painting or tiling a feature vertical stripe or using a similar wallpaper pattern is also a good idea.

Another way to draw the eye upwards is by lining the edge, or ‘crown’ of the ceiling with a border; perhaps a cornice, or a patterned tile around the top of the walls.

Lights and mirrors

  • Mirrors are a great way to add depth, width and length to a small room but be careful not to over do it, one mirror is generally enough. The mirror will also help to distribute light throughout the room.
  • Clear shower screens as opposed to opaque gives the illusion of more space and light. A fully frameless shower screen doesn’t create any visual barriers at all and can work brilliantly in a small bathroom.
  • Make use of natural light. A skylight will solve problems if the room is oriented away from the sun.
  • Illuminating the perimeter of the room will make it seem larger, and also get rid of dark corners. A good idea is to place shelves on the walls near the ceiling and fit lights underneath them.

Colour

  • The key word is ‘simple’. For example, don’t use a busy wallpaper pattern, as the room will seem smaller and more cluttered.
  • Light coloured walls, floors and décor can make a room seem larger. We suggest using pastel tones, neutrals or whites.

Tiles

  • Larger tiles create a sense of space, as do rectified porcelain tiles. Because of the way they are made, rectified porcelain tiles are identically shaped, meaning narrower grout lines and less visual fuss.
  • The feeling of space can be generated by more visible tiled floor. This can be produced with a choice of wall-hung cabinets, a pedestal or wall mounted sink.
  • A floor based vanity unit on the other hand, takes up a lot of floor space and is best avoided.

Storage, sinks and baths

  • Pedestal basins are a great way of adding space, as they don’t sit atop a bulky structure. However, when choosing one of these basins, keep in mind your storage needs.
  • Make sure you include adequate storage as clutter only exacerbates the problems of a small bathroom. Exposed shelving, recessed cabinets and wall-hung cabinets are a good option, with the latter leaving more exposed floor space.
  • Placing your windows near the ceiling will free up wall space for your storage needs.
  • Placing the toilet in an alcove will make efficient use of a small bathroom, and above the toilet is a great place to fit a shelf, too. Corner toilets are an effective option.
  • If you want to include a relaxing bath then head for a small but deep model. Shower baths start in size at 900mm x 900mm.

Doors

  • A sliding door gives more room than a normal hinged door, and can be hidden in an in-wall cavity for a clean look.
  • If you are using a hinged door, don’t clutter your walls with towel racks. Hang them on the back of the door instead.

  334. Хмурая утренняя маршрутка добирается из спального района в центр. Через все пробки, заторы, светофоры… Народ спит или пытается дремать. И тут на остановке вваливается мужик, довольный как целое стадо слонов. Плюхается на сидение рядом со строгой женщиной учительского вида, достает из кармана мобилу и, дыша свежим выхлопом, погружается в оживленный диалог.
    – Але, Санька? Скажи мне срочно телефон Наташки. Какая она баба, ух, какая она баба… А как она минет делает – м-м-м, умереть не встать, моя жена так не умеет… Да, повтори еще раз, я записываю… Да, спасибо, что познакомил! - и все это минуты на три, с подробностями, эмоциями до потолка и матом через два слова на третье.
    Маршрутка начинает оживать. Просыпаются те, кто еще пытался досмотреть сны и ошарашенно смотрят на мужика. «Учительница» на соседнем сидении демонстративно фыркает и отворачивается к окну. Мужик прощается с Санькой и немедленно набирает номер Наташки.
    — Але, Наташка? Привет! Мне так понравилось то, что мы с тобой вытворяли! Я хочу тебя еще! Да мне еще никто так хорошо не делал… Да? Ты еще лучше можешь? А ну-ка, расскажи подробнее, проказница моя…
    Учительница на соседнем сиденье поворачивается к мужику и просит его говорить потише, потому что его выражения оскорбляют ее педагогический слух. Мужик нетерпеливо отмахивается от нее и снова погружается в беседу.
    — Меня так возбудило то, что ты побрила… Понимаешь, я жене не могу такое сказать, она сразу почувствует, что я ей изменил… Ну да, приходится терпеть, а что делать…
    Маршрутка уже полностью проснулась и с интересом прислушивается к подробностям. Водитель огладывается в в зеркальце и тоже внимает, затаив дыхание. Недовольна только «учительница», она просто закипает от с трудом сдерживаемого возмущения. И тут на мобилу мужику приходит второй звонок. Он прерывается, победный тон стихает, и он почти шепотом сообщает Наташке
    — Ой, прости, не могу больше разговаривать, мне нужно ответить на звонок… Жена! Я тебе попозже перезвоню, лады? Ну, пока!
    И уже совершенно другим голосом начинает бубнить в трубку:
    — Да, дорогая… Ой, мы так вчера пили с Санькой, так пили… Ну, ты же его знаешь, а что делать… Ой, плохо мне сейчас, голова разламывается… Да, приму таблетку. Постараюсь прийти пораньше, да. Хотя работы много. Солнышко, ну прости, хорошо, я точно постараюсь прийти пораньше.
    И вот тут настает звездный час «учительницы». Она поворачивается к мужику и очень внятно говорит прямо в микрофон его мобилы:
    – Ми-илый, ну где ты там копаешься, я уже устала тебя ждаать… Мне же холодно, иди ко мне, дорогой!
    У мужика падает челюсть, он судорожно захлопывает мобилу под дружный гогот пассажиров. Водитель бьет по тормозам и грызет руль. Мужик, поджав хвост шмыгает к дверям и просит выпустить его. Маршрутка содрогается от хохота. Хлопает дверь. Училка отворачивается к окну и довольно улыбается. Занавес…

Моя история из жизни: мы как-то с мамой ехали в маршрутке,( мама спец по всем видам мяса на глаз определяет что это), на остановке залазит подвипывший мужик с куском свежака в одноразовом пакете. Едем. Маршрутка резко тормозит,мужик по инерции бежит вперед и пакет рвется ,оттуда выпадет свежак ,дальше мамины слова- ” Мужчина,у вас вымя выпало!” я медленно сползаю под сиденье , пассажиры ржут, мужик красный - выбегает на следующей остановке :) ))

  387. Привет, сегодня на моих глазах произошла просто шокирующая история. В практически пустом вагоне электрички, возвращалась домой в дачный поселок. В вагоне никого практически не было, впереди нас сидела девушка. Лет 19, наверное. Пожилая пара и еще несколько женщин. Из тамбура в вагон пришла компания гопоты. 5 человек, лет по 20-25. Ничего не говоря, я просто оторопела, подбежали к той молодой девушке, заломили руки через сиденье. Один из подонков пирачинный нож достал и прошел по вагону, осматривая сидящих людей. Я тогда не знаю, просто душа в пятки ушла. Он сказал, что то вроде сидите смирно и вам ничего не сделают. В общем, с девушке стащили джинсы, одежду верхнюю. Один руки держал, второй сверху навалился, рот залепили. Достали ремень, и стали пряжкой пороть. Я была в шоке. Изверги по очереди ее пороли, я да же не знаю, сколько времени прошло, минут 30, наверное, пороли пока она сознания не потеряла, потом насиловали. Закончили, обмякшее тело девушки положили на сидение, оделись и спокойно пошли обратно в тамбур. Я просто в шоке страшном, как только они ушли, выбежала на следующей остановке, бежала долго, не помню куда и что. Всю ночь руки тряслись, не знаю, что стало с той девушкой, что вообще это было. Ужас, я теперь боюсь ездить в электричке.
    А вы тут говорите о порядочности какой-то, где она, если такое просто происходит на людях.

    At Virginia Tech, where tailgating and raucous apartment complex parties are time-honored rituals, university officials are turning increasingly to Mom and Dad to curb problem underage drinking.

    This semester, the school in Blacksburg, Va., began notifying parents when their under-21 students are found guilty of even minor alcohol violations such as getting caught with a beer in a dorm room.

    Although it’s common for colleges to alert parents of major alcohol offenses — or when a student faces suspension — Virginia Tech is part of a small but growing number sending letters home on minor ones.

    The debate about how much to involve parents in such cases is a balancing act for colleges and universities. Officials want to hold young adults accountable as they venture out on their own, are well aware that drinking is part of the college experience, and also recognize potential allies in a generation of hands-on parents who can help when things go too far.

    “I think it helps students open up to parents,” said Steven Clarke, director of Virginia Tech’s College Alcohol Abuse Prevention Center. “And parents can be helpful in setting boundaries students might need.”

    The beefed-up parental notification policy is part of a broader strategy that includes alcohol-education classes and a “party positive” program that encourages responsible drinking.

    The student reaction to the policy change, not surprisingly, has been less than enthusiastic.

    “If you have one beer in the dorm and you get caught, I don’t feel like parents should be notified,” said Erik Pryslak, a junior engineering major. “Now that we’re all in college, we’re all adults. It’s kind of your responsibility to take care of yourself. If you want to make your parents aware you’re about to be kicked out of school, then it’s on you.”

    Studies show that students who say their parents would disapprove of them drinking are less likely to drink heavily once they get to college, said Toben Nelson, an assistant professor at the University of Minnesota School of Public Health who has studied campus drinking.

    At Virginia Tech, the school has operated on a “three strikes” system for years: Students get one strike for a minor alcohol violation and two for a major one — things like getting a DUI or vomiting all over a residence hall bathroom. Three strikes and a student is suspended for at least one semester.

    After a spate of alcohol-related deaths on college campuses, Congress in the late 1990s changed student privacy laws to lower barriers to parental notification in cases involving students under 21.

    Schools took a wide array of approaches in response. Virginia Tech started notifying parents of under-21 students after major alcohol offenses or when a student had accumulated two strikes with two minor ones.

    But some parents complained that because they had not been notified of minor offenses, they were in the dark until a student was suddenly facing suspension, said Edward Spencer, Virginia Tech’s vice president for student affairs. Hence the change this semester — a move Spencer says also reflects changing times.

    Parents of Generation X students were often reluctant to get involved when the school invoked an emergency clause in privacy laws and alerted them of alcohol problems, he said.

    “The response would be, ‘You know, I’m leaving on a cruise. I’m going to a class reunion.’”

    But today, parents of millennials tend to be tethered by cell phone to children who studies show often idolize their parents — so it makes sense to go a step further in parental involvement, he said.

    “We’d like to strike a happy medium,” Spencer said. “We’re grateful for the positive involvement of parents. We find it difficult when their involvement is over-involvement.”

    Research has found more than 40 percent of college students reported at least one symptom of alcohol abuse or dependance. One recent study estimated that more than 500,000 full-time students at four-year colleges suffer injuries each year related to drinking, and about 1,700 die in such accidents.

    “When it comes to safety, there really is a fine line,” said Max DiSesa, a sophomore from Durham, N.H. “I completely understand Virginia Tech and they want to keep people safe. But I think this might be overall detrimental to the growth of students.”

    Some universities already have found success alerting parents earlier. The University at Albany, State University of New York has seen a decline in repeat offenders since it began notifying parents of under-21 students of minor alcohol violations four years ago, said Laurie Garafola, director of residential life.

    “I don’t send many second letters out to parents,” she said.

    At the University of North Carolina Wilmington, the philosophy is different. The school — which like many others stresses shared responsibility to parents and students during summer orientation — does not notify parents of minor offenses. Parents, however, are notified before any under-21 student is suspended.

    “Part of students coming to college is to learn how to be a responsible adult — and hopefully learn from their mistakes,” said Patricia Leonard, vice chancellor for student affairs.

    Another sad dose of real life has hit the family of a reality TV star.

    The 4-year-old daughter of Ax Men slinger Jesse Browning has been mauled to death by the family’s Rottweiler.

    Ashlynn Anderson’s body was discovered by her mother outside on the lawn Sunday, according to officials in Astoria, Ore., where the family resides.

    “Apparently, the dog just snapped,” says Clatsop County Sheriff Tom Bergin. “We have detectives working on investigating set the dog off]…We are going to give the family a day or two to grieve before we interview them.”

    Browning called 911 and the girl was airlifted to a Portland hospital, but pronounced dead on arrival.

    There was no immediate comment from the History Channel, which airs the popular lumberjack series.

    Bergin says the attack came four months to the day after deputies removed a Rottweiler from the premises after it attacked an adult family member; that animal was euthanized. The Brownings’ two other Rottweilers have been quarantined at a shelter and are awaiting their fate.

    “It’s from my understanding…only one of the dogs was involved in the attack but both dogs were seized by animal control services,” said Alan Oja, assistant chief of the Astoria Police Department, which received the initial dispatch.

    “It’s a terrible tragedy.”

  413. Hello. My wife and I bought our house about 6 months ago. It was a foreclosure and we were able to get a great deal on it. We also took advantage of the 8K tax credit so that definitely helped. We did an extensive remodeling job and now I want to refinance to cut the term to a 20 or 15 year loan. Does anyone know any good sites for mortgage information? Thanks!

Я отыскала типа подобной игрушки, только мишку -интерактивный мишка Куби, кто покупал такого? Стоит покупать? Или посоветуйте что-либо еще. Не дайте ребенку остаться без подарка от папы с мамы с папой.
